At M & J Land Services we use GIS (Geographical Information Systems) for a variety of reasons. Shapefiles that represent land surface and mineral boundaries are used in conjunction with County, Section, Township-Range, Abstract, Government lot lines and and other public survey outlines to provide the contractor with accurate locations for their field of expertise.
Through the use of several public websites, BLM (Bureau of Land Management), Individual State and County Assessor information, we can provide basic but viable locations for the field agent or contractor to begin research or acquisition. The shapefiles then can be manipulated showing deed calls or "plotted" boundary lines for mineral and surface representation from recorded public documents.
Once the shapefiles have been accurately represented as plotted locations, simply by changing the analytic values we are able to view a variety of information as a visual representation, i.e. a color-coded and labeled map. With the ability to view the information hosted in a database in a variety of ways there are endless possibilities for showcasing the information for a prospect location or the entirety of the project.
